Sony has revealed their latest smart phone during the IFA - Sony Xperia Z1.

Although their announcement has seemingly been blanketed by the introduction of Samsung Galaxy Note 3, I do believe that it is highly possible that this will be my next phone or the phone that will persuade me to make the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 I have, my secondary toy.

I have been holding on to my Note 2 for more than a year. It is great and packed with tons of futuristic features that you can't find on any other phones. But I don't use them that often and using my S Note feature during meetings resulted in comments such as, "Mark is playing on his smart phone and not listening." I was merely writing down notes.

Without much further ado, let's take a look at the latest video of the Sony Xperia Z1 by Sony.

The Xperia Z1 has a 5-inch display with a quad-core processor of 2.2GHz. Along with it is the exciting 20.7 megapixel rear camera that beats most of its competitors in the market currently except for the crazy Nokia Lumia 1020's 41 megapixel camera.

The features in the camera are what you get in any other phone. One feature that puzzled me most is the Alternative Reality (AR) function. You can make a dinosaur and stuff appear on your camera screen and take a picture of it with your background.

I'm serious! I think this is just a fun feature that can bring you some laughter after a stressful day at work.

The shots taken from the Z1's camera should be amazing with the combination of its award-winning "G Lens", 27mm wide angle, bright F2.0 aperture and 1/2.3-type CMOS image sensor Exmor RS for mobile. Wow.. So much bombastic descriptions. Must be super duper great and comparable to a DSLR!

Well... no.

All these technical specifications mean that you get good image quality similar to that of a digital compact camera.

Similar to its predecessor - the Xperia Z - the Xperia Z1 is waterproof and I love it. The waterproof function is really something useful that makes me feel that Sony did ask the question, "What does the users really need?" Instead of, "They need to wave at the phone to command movements."

Okay. Back to the review.

The phone is fully HD, which means it operates in a resolution of 1920 x 1080p and with its inbuilt Bravia technology, this small phone will make colours pop for sure. You will surely enjoy your drama series or movies with this baby.

Next, I want to specially highlight something which is called the Social live. According to Sony's press release, social live allows users to broadcast precious moments live from Xperia Z1 to Facebook and get live comments on their screens as they video an event.

This is an extremely exciting feature for event coordinators, marketing executives, wedding videographers and even YOU. People doing events can use this function to broadcast live feeds on their Facebook page for audiences who are unable to make it for the event. Yes! Live feeds! No more typing to update your fans of the happenings.

As for you, my friend, the live coverage of your wedding proposal to the world i.e. within your own group of friends on Facebook. Hmm... I can't help but wonder if the porn industry would soon be the biggest client of Sony. JOKING!

But do note that if you do not have like a 12Gigabyte of data from your mobile service provider, please turn on the wi-fi to do that thing you wanna do. Again, no kinky insinuation!

The Sony Xperia Z1 is slick and thin, with its power button at the right side of the phone where most thumbs would land. Pretty handy to design it this way and imagine how classy you will look when you press it and walk out of the train cabin in slow-mo. Wooo... Prince Charming, eh? Only if you are Ryan Gosling.

I think the rest of the other features are negligible. Although the Xperia Z1 is not as awesome as the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, which is packed with tons of functions, the Xperia Z1 is more realistic when it comes to usability. And that's what entices me. I hold a Galaxy Note 2 and while it is cool with its jaw-dropping features of its time, I don't use them often. My fingers are better at completing tasks. ;)

Battery life is this phone should be good with a 3,000 mAh battery. But it all boils down to what you do with this phone.

Unfortunately, for people who use their phones like a portable hard disk, the 16 GB internal memory may turn them away but hey, you can always boost it up with a 64GB external microSD card.

Yes. I would definitely recommend Sony Xperia Z1 to people who are less techie and love taking photos in all climates. But if you are a person who adores Samsung for their breakthroughs in functionality of their smart phones, then probably this is not the phone for you. Love or hate, this phone suits the needs of every person in their daily life.

Eight out of ten in a train cabin are already holding a bulky Samsung. Why not be different for once?
